Theo has always been a favorite of mine. In fact, he has a very special distinction in that I had never, ever cut a class in my entire educational career until he appeared at the old Korvette’s in B’klyn. I cut a class to go buy an album and get his autograph. I still have that 33 rpm. It is covered in plastic to preserve the integrity of the album and his signature.
One of my favorites from the album is “Doce Cacabeles” which I had hoped he’d sing when he performed at my shul some years ago. Unfortunately, it wasn’t part of the program.
Will always cherish the memory of that encounter. May he live to 120 and go from strength to strength.
Last night at a fundraiser for Temple Aliyah, Mr. Bikel read an article he wrote for Moment magazine. It was both educational and inspirational. I would love to have a copy. Please send it to my email address.
