Mark Goldhaber

Mark Goldhaber (67), a Republican from Raleigh, NC, is active in the Jewish Federation and AIPAC. He previously worked for a Republican member of Congress and the National Republican Congressional Committee, and he was a Reagan appointee to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. His wife is a Democrat and he’s a Republican, which they’ve “dealt with happily for 35 years.”

We are providing the unfiltered opinions of voters interviewed for this project. Those views are based on their understanding and perception of facts and information from a range of sources. In some cases, that information may be misleading or incorrect.

Do the impeachment proceedings hurt or improve Trump’s chances for re-election?

They are not helpful for the president, but they won’t be determinative. Since the House Democrats and the chairman of the Intelligence Committee, Adam Schiff, have been investigating Trump for over two years, I don’t believe these hearings impacted independents or Republicans in a major way.

Which Democratic candidate(s) do you think will give Trump the greatest challenge for re-election?

Mike Bloomberg, if he can survive the primaries. The economy will be the defining issue, and Bloomberg has the opportunity to pick off more Republicans and independents than other candidates. He has a market and business focus and would be less likely to believe that big government is the solution. Also, he will have virtually unlimited resources.

Which Democratic candidate(s) do you think will give Trump the best chance for re-election?

Senator Warren. Her Medicare for all plan will scare independents and Republicans as people understand that her proposals will mean higher taxes for more than just the top 1 percent.

Do you believe the candidate(s) you support are honest?

I think that some candidates are more factually accurate than others.
